"Green" Things to do without your car....

• Bird Watching - A short walk to Thurlestone Sands there is an RSPB nature reserve, which is a refuge for many migrating birds and is one of the largest natural reed beds in England.
• Beach-combing - Who knows what could get washed up from the many maritime wrecks.
• Bus - Take the bus from Hope Cove (3 per day Monday - Saturday) and explore Kingsbridge or connect to another destination, enjoy superb views of the countryside.
• Cycling - Not on the coast path but still a good way to see the local area, although it can be a little hilly in places, there is a cycle route along the Kingsbridge Estuary.
• Kite Flying - Strong sea breezes make for good flying (no overhead cables).
• Local Walks - Leave your car on the hotel car park and enjoy our marvellous coastal and inland walks, maps available from hotel reception. Admire the unusual flora and fauna, head for the National Trust gardens at Sharpitor Bolt Head, Salcombe. Enjoy a part of the 54 miles of the South Devon Heritage Coastal Path.
• Painting - Many interesting subjects, lots of variety in colour and texture.
• Photography - The coastline provides many dramatic shots and the sunsets are amazing.
• Rock Pooling - At low tide discover the fascinating marine life that inhabits these natural pools.
• Sailing - Launch from the Harbour beach slipway, leave your boat and trailer on our top car park.
• Scuba Diving - The numerous wrecks make diving here an incredible experience.
• Sea Fishing - From your own boat, off the beach or from Bolt Tail.
• Snorkelling - See a different view of our varied coastline.
• Stargazing - The night sky is crystal clear here because there are no street-lamps.
• Sun-bathing - Then refresh yourself with an ice-cream from our beach café 'the Kiln' an original limekiln.
• Surfing - When the waves are right and there is space between the locals.
• Swimming - In safety, our beach has been awarded a Seaside Award from the Tidy Britain Group.
• Windsurfing - Hire or Tuition with Surfin-Sam on Thurlestone Sands, Surf Skis, Body Board and Wetsuits available.
