   HOPE COVE HARBOUR

       COMMISSIONERS

  

THE HARBOUR COMMISSION AT HOPE COVE WAS FORMED IN THE EARLY 1920s TO RUN THE HARBOUR AFTER THE  BUILDING OF THE BREAKWATER. THE COMMISSION HAS THE RIGHT TO CHARGE HARBOUR DUES FOR LAUNCHING OF VESSELS AND THE RIGHT TO PASS LOCAL BY-LAWS TO ENSURE THAT THE HARBOUR USERS AND PROPERTY ARE PROTECTED. HARBOUR DUES ARE CHARGED ON THE HARBOUR BEACH AND ON THE USE OF THE SLIPWAY AT INNER HOPE. THE HARBOUR MASTER HAS THE RIGHT TO REFUSE THE LAUNCHING OF ANY VESSEL, AND WILL REQUIRE TO SEE VALID INSURANCE CERTIFICATES( ESPECIALLY IN THE CASE OF JET SKIS ) OR FOR OWNERS TO SIGN A DISCLAIMER OF THE HARBOUR COMMISSIONERS LIABILTY. ALL PERSONS USING THE HARBOUR DO SO AT THEIR OWN RISK, AND THE COMMISSIONERS ACCEPST NO RESPONSIBILITIES FOR INJURY LOSS OR DAMAGE TO PERSONS OR PROPERTY USING HARBOUR LAND.

 

FOR SAFETY AND CONVENIENCE

THE HARBOUR REGULATIONS ARE

1. DOGS ARE TO BE KEPT ON A LEAD AT ALL TIMES ON THIS BEACH, AND DOG MESS IS TO BE PICKED UP AND DEPOSITED IN THE BIN PROVIDED AT HARBOUR BEACH. FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THESE INSTRUCTIONS COULD LEAD TO DOGS BEING COMPLETELY BANNED FROM THIS BEACH.THE NEAREST BEACH WHERE DOGS CAN RUN FREE IS THURLESTONE SANDS 1 MILE TO THE NORTH OF HOPE COVE.

2. NO CARS OR UNAUTHORISED VEHICLES ARE ALLOWED ON HARBOUR BEACH, WITHOUT THE EXPRESS PERMISSION OF THE HARBOUR MASTER. BOATS ARE TO BE UN-HITCHED AND MAN HANDLED FROM THE FOOT OF THE SLIPWAY.

3. ALL BOATS LEFT ON THE BEACH ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OWNERS AT ALL TIMES. IN THE EVENT OF BAD WEATHER AND HIGH TIDES BOATS MAY HAVE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE BEACH . NO BOATS ARE TO BE LEFT ON HARBOUR BEACH, WITHOUT PRIOR ARRANGEMENT WITH THE HARBOUR MASTER.

4. ALL BOATS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE BEACH BY THE 1ST NOVEMBER, UNLESS THERE IS A PRIOR ARRANGEMENT WITH THE HARBOUR MASTER.

5. ROAD TRAILERS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE BEACH IF A LAUNCHING TRAILER IS BEING USED, OR IF THE BOAT IS ON A MOORING LINE.

6. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 5 KNOTS INSIDE THE HARBOUR, WHICH EXTENDS TO THE YELLOW BATHING BOUYS SITUATED AT THE HARBOUR ENTRANCE.

 7. ALL DIVING RIBS AND JET SKIS MUST OPERATE FROM INNER HOPE, AND SHORE DIVING IS NOT PERMITTED WITHIN THE HARBOUR.

8. BOAT ENGINES MAY ONLY BE STARTED IN DEEPER WATER AWAY FROM MOORING ROPES TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO ROPES.

9. DIGGING OF BAIT OR THE DIGGING OF LARGE HOLES IN THE BOATING AREA IS PROHIBITED. YOU WILL BE ASKED TO FILL IN ANY CHILDRENS EXCAVATIONS TO ALLOW THE FREE PASSAGE OF BOATS.

10. THE LIGHTING OF FIRES OR THE USE OF BARBECUES ON THE BEACH IS PROHIBITED AS IS ALSO THE PLAYING OF LOUD MUSIC, OR ANY COMMERCIAL USE OTHER THAN FISHING.

11. PLEASE KEEP THE BEACH CLEAN AND TIDY. THERE ARE RUBBISH BINS PROVIDED BY THE PUBLIC TOILETS, PLEASE REPORT ANY BROKEN GLASS OR POLUTION TO THE HARBOUR MASTER.

12. NO WATER SKIING OR RING TOWING ALLOWED INSIDE THE SWIMMING AREA DENOTED BY THE YELLOW HARBOUR ENTRANCE BOUYS.

 

 

THE COMMISSIONERS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO ALTER REGULATIONS WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE.
