Okehampton Castle is one of the country's most picturesque castle ruins, standing in a stunning setting amid the foothills of Dartmoor. It is thought to be one of the biggest Castles in Devon.
It became a very luxurious residence in the 14th century, and was owned by the Earl of Devon. It is also mentioned in the Domesday Book, dating it back to around 1086.
A visit is highly recommended if you are a keen walker or rambler, a bird enthusiast (as there are many species of birds visiting the Okehampton castle areas in the spring and early summer), or simply a lover of nature at its best.
